Mythic and literary images
Nature has, and will continue to have, a significant part to play in the 'stories' about us and the world in which we live. Its role to help us understand the human experience symbolically and through time contributes to the meaning of our relationship with each other and the environment in which we live. Nature (including ourselves) together with the observable Universe are the source of all our cosmologies and religions and we create and use symbols to help us interpret that relationship and our subsequent actions and behaviour.
These images have come via Aztec myths of Quetzalcoatl, nineteenth century nature writings of John Clare and Francis Kilvert, the spirit of trees and the Fens, Chinese philosophy and the spirit of place and much more.
